| Interview with DR. PAUL
WHITE
THE ROCK: Who is Paul White?
White: I am a child of God, who was made
in the image of God and striving to fulfill all that God has for me.
I am the husband to Paticia and father to Pauline. Lastly, I am a preacher
of the Gospel of Christ. That comes third to my relationship with Christ
being first and foremost, and my family being second.
THE ROCK:
When did you start writing?
White: According to both of my parents,
I started writing at 5 years of age. I used to put my thoughts on paper
not realizing that I was writing poetry.
THE ROCK: What prepared you to become an author?
White: God. Whatever is in you has to come
out of you. Whirlwind in the Wilderness was in my spirit to write for
about a year. It took me three years to write it.
THE ROCK:
What inspired you to become a writer?
White: As already stated, whatever is in
you has to come out. A friend of mine named Millie Grayson indicated
that I should perfect my craft and consider publishing a book. She also
stated that God does not give gifts so we can keep it to ourselves.
We have to share it with the world for it to profit anything.
THE ROCK: What inspired you to write your
book?
White: As the eldest son of a Pentecostal
preacher, I am no stranger to the church especially Pentecostalism.
I wanted my novel to have a Pentecostal flavor, along with truths about
what goes on behind some closed doors when people are put in vulnerable
positions… when their hearts are not right with God. There are
consequences to pay when you willfully step out of God's will just to
do your will. No one can serve two masters. You are either God's servant,
or you are a slave to sin.
THE ROCK: Tell us about your newest creation.
What is the premise?
White: I’m working on a Christian
play that has an urban flavor and poetry.
THE ROCK: Have you ever self-published?
White: No.
THE ROCK:
Is having a publishing contract with a ‘traditional publisher’
important?
White: I'd rather go through a traditional
publisher so my work can get national distribution. That way my work
can be purchased at major bookstores....Yes an author can make much
more money if he or she self-publishes, but the self-marketing can be
very time consuming.
THE ROCK: What are some of your professional
achievements?
White: The professional achievement that
means the most to me was when I received an earned doctorate degree
in Creative Writing. A year later, I received two honorary degrees...
Doctor of Literature and Doctor of Sacred Letters.
THE ROCK: Who are some of your favorite authors?
White: Sydney Sheldon, TD Jakes, and Stephen
King (believe it or not).
THE ROCK: Where do you want to be in five
years?
White: Fiji Island lying on the beach with
my wife and daughter and a virgin pina colada in my
hand... Ha, Ha, Ha. Seriously speaking, I anticipate operating my own
company. I believe that whatever God gives you to do in life, strive
for excellence, be great at it, and anticipate doing it full-time so
you can devote that full concentration to it.
THE ROCK:
Where can readers find you?
White: You can order my books, Whirlwind
in the Wilderness and An Escape into a World: The Art of Reality through
pretty much all of the major books stores such as: Barnes and Noble,
Borders, Books-a-Million....You can also reach me by email at: drpaulwhite@hotmail.com,
or paulwhite@post.com
if you would like for me to attend a book presentation, book signing,
or speaking engagement.
THE ROCK:
Thank you, Paul. Peace and blessings.
