A Moment in Solitude

Why sing? The song has been sung,
The music has filled the air,
The words have already clasped the hearts of me.
Why dance? The dance has been danced,
The movements have swayed with time,
The steps have already pulsed the feet of men.
There is only an echo that beckons us,
There is only a shadow of what has passed,
The dream is merely a mirage-
The mirage, a dream.
Why reach for the unattainable,
For that which has been attained?
Why paint? The scene has been won,
The artist has talked with God,
The depths have already moved the souls of men.
Why write? The tale has been told,
The message has been received,
The books have already shared the thoughts of men.
Why search? The object is found;
The Answer has long been known,
The task has already proved the worth of men.
Why live?

Ambition

Strive on, the goal is not too far
The crossing has been cleared,
There lies the way.
The grass is underfoot
To trample or devour,
Come what may.
Strive on! The goal is not too far,
Strive on!

Mysterious Evening
(Age 15)
Shadows and light
People scarcely passing by
Cars moving in the night.
Trolleys make their tired sigh
Shadows and lights fading
Softly through the night.
Hark! A car again-and another-
Showing the sands of time.
An umbrella! A woman. Alas!
But it is dark. Hark! A dimlit
Trolley passes by-
Darkness and shadows
Love is cold.
Shadows and light-
Darkness and night…
A mysterious end
For a strange beginning.

Cartoon Kid
(Brandon)
(May 8, 1999)

Brandon! Where’s your spoon?
"I’m looking at a cartoon!"
Brandon! Your mom’ll be here soon.
"I’m looking at my favorite cartoon!"
Brandon, where’d you put Kitty’s balloon?
"I’m looking at a new cartoon."
Brandon, that character’s just a buffoon!
"Don’t make fun of my cartoon."
Brandon! You’ll be as crazy as a loon!
"Hush! I’m watching my cartoon."
Brandon, come learn a funny tune.
"Not while I’m watching my cartoon."

Give up! To all else he’s quite immune.
Why?
Brandon is watching his cartoon.

( Brandon, my great-nephew, came for a visit with his Mom, Melanie. Hers was a business trip, so I babysat with Brandon, my sister, Rosemary’s, grandson.)
